Specialist Underwriting

Non-Status Leasing

Non-status leasing is for individuals and businesses who don’t fit the standard criteria used for mainstream credit assessments — but it is not a route around a poor credit history.

Individual assessment

Specialist underwriters review applications on their own merits, not a simple credit score cut-off.

Personal and business

Available to both individuals and companies who fall outside standard criteria.

Not guaranteed

Acceptance is not automatic — affordability and stability still need to be demonstrated.

Additional requirements may apply

Higher documentation fees, larger deposits or a guarantee may be required.

What non-status leasing is — and isn’t

Non-status leasing is designed for applicants who don’t fit neatly into a standard automated credit assessment — for example, a limited UK credit history, self-employment with variable income, or a new employment situation. It is assessed individually by specialist underwriters rather than an automated decision engine.

Important: this route is not suitable for applicants with bad credit, County Court Judgments (CCJs) or other adverse credit history. A credit check is still carried out, and acceptance is not guaranteed — underwriters need to see evidence of affordability and stability.

Typical documentation

Business applicants will typically also be asked for the director’s driving licence and proof of address, business bank statements, and — where required — a director’s guarantee.

  • Valid driving licence at current address
  • 3+ years address history
  • 3+ years employment history
  • Proof of address (utility bill, last 3 months)
  • Wage slips or business bank statements showing income
  • SA302 tax documents, where applicable
